Councilor Yelencich's Background

From Councilor Yelencich's Perspective . . . . .

I have lived in Richmond all my life, with a short absence while I was in enlisted in the United States Navy, stationed in Washington D.C..  I have traveled the world, visiting places such as Japan, Germany, Spain, and Italy. I currently continue my military career as an Airman with the Michigan Air National Guard, and have just passed the 10-year mark

My family has been involved with local politics for some time, with my father serving as mayor and councilor for the City of Richmond, my mother serving on the City of Richmond Planning Commission and my grandfather serving as supervisor for Lenox Township. I recently resigned my position with the Richmond Parks and Recreation Commission which I served on for several years, most of which as chairman.  I believe with the experience that I have received in past endeavors has given me the knowledge and skill to serve the people of Richmond well.

Also following in the family tradition, I have been a member of the Richmond Vol. Fire Department for about 4 years now.   My father is also on the department, along with several other family members.  This involvement led me to my full time position as an Emergency Medical Technician with Richmond/Lenox EMS, whom I have been employed by for about 3 years now.  The opportunity to assist others is a great enjoyment, and this will be another avenue to do so.

There are many issues that the city is facing at this time.  The steady growth of the area always needs to be looked at.  The threat and realization of urban sprawl must be address properly or our future generation will suffer.  The need to secure a stable infrastructure (roads, traffic, water, etc) is essential in this area.  All our city departments must join together if we to set the city up for a prosperous future.  I also feel that it is essential to work hand and hand with our neighbors to develop a community that can be enjoyed by all, not one. To overcome these obstacles and also keep our taxes at a reasonable rate will be a challenge, but one that I think we are up to.  I believe we have the right people in place to face these challenges, and with your support we will develop a community that all of us can be proud of.

I look forward to hearing from you, with your criticisms, ideas, and hopefully your support.
